If you are inspired to get involved with the work of The Pittsburgh Promise, there are many ways to volunteer your time. Your willingness to give your time will ensure that our city’s students are Promise Ready.

Be a Middle School Mentor is an initiative of United Way of Allegheny County in partnership with the Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh Public Schools to help foster positive relationships, prepare students for academic and career success and help them achieve eligibility for Pittsburgh Promise. Research proves that mentors can influence good choices-including staying focused in school, staying out of trouble, and making plans for the future, including college and a career.
We Promise is a program uniquely designed to support African-American male students who are at risk of missing Promise eligibility requirements of a 2.5GPA and 90% attendance rate. We Promise mentors help to provide the resources these young men need to ensure they are prepared and eligible to receive a scholarship from The Pittsburgh Promise at graduation.
The City of Pittsburgh’s Promise Coaches Campaign aims to increase the number of graduating students who are Pittsburgh Promise eligible and promote a culture of higher education in the City of Pittsburgh. Promise Coaches equips Pittsburgh adults with the necessary tools and resources to help the students in their lives earn a high school diploma and ensure that they are on the road to post-secondary and career success.
Periodically The Promise needs help with mailings, registration at events, and other administrative tasks. While these opportunities do not occur regularly, it is wonderful to have a list of volunteers that we can count on when they do. If you would like to be added to that list we will reach out on an as-needed basis.
